Sika deer and camping?
« on: February 24, 2012, 06:16:00 PM »
Hiya boys..I planning to try my hand at a DIY sika hunt this year in MD. I was wondering if anyone here has camped or knows a good place to camp/hunt? Or if your allowed to camp in the bush when your done hunting? I plan on bringing my kayak so I need a relatively close water access point.

Any idea or thought are welcome

Check the chicateague and asateague Island website for hunting and camping regulations. One of the Islands borders or is in Virginia.

And my spelling on the islands is most likely wrong.   :)

If you do a search for sika deer hunt , last  year a bunch of guys did one and it is a good thread with tons of good info.

I have wanted to do it for a long time, but time and money never go together.

There is a camp ground on Taylor's Island which is fairly close to Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. You need a permit to hunt there but they are available. I believe you can also camp at Madison Bay just up the road a little.

No camping on Blackwater though.

Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge (on the Virginia side) has 2 three day bowhunts for sika and whitetails...it is a lottery hunt, but is very easy to get drawn.

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.
