I got my first doz. From Matt a month ago and can't stop shooting them.  What a great wood to work with, they take color very well, they stay very straight, the shooting characteristics are the best I've shot, and they're extremely tough.

Am out of town hog hunting but will post up some pics tonight.

These are the Poplar shafts I got from Matt.  I used colors visible for low light conditions and they're ready to fly through some pork. Unfortunately a cold front kept the hogs from cooperating this weekend so no pics of what they look like in a shade of red.

This is an arrow I made from the same batch of poplar shafts. I only made one for a test. I have 6 more going now.
Its been a while since I've made doweled arrows so I went cheap with the decorations. This arrow has a self nock wrapped with sinew. The crown was sprayed with Kilz primer paint and the cresting is Sharpie and the arrow sealed with spray poly. The red wrap at the forward end of the fletching is silk set in super glue. The feathers are 5 1/2" shield cut attached with fletch tape and an offset straight fletch. The tracer is rabbit fur zonker. Tipped with a 125 Grizzly broadhead.
The bare unfinished shaft weighed 455gr. The finished arrow weighs right at 600gr. The arrow is 29"...and flied like a dart!

Thumbs up for magnus.

Matt did some Surewood Doug Fir for me and I got them Saturday. I got to shoot them for a few minutes today. Matt I think we hit the spine and tip weight for the 65# HH style LB! They shoot great!

Thanks Matt!! Lots of good arrowsmiths here on TG. Matt is up there with the best of them.

Now he's got me thinking about these poplars....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
