My husband and I each own two Elk Ridge bows. He has two super-short KHBs, which they do not offer any more. I have a 56" KHB and a Pilgrim II, also discontinued.
They make a good quality product at a good price. The short cuts that I see in order to make this possible are in the finish of the bows. The tip overlays are kinda chunky, instead of finely feathered to the limb, and the finish is serviceable but not finely detailed.
Structurally, and in the hand, they are sound and fun shooters. If a bow that sends an arrow well is your goal, and you are not into cosmetics, (although some of their bows are real lookers,) then this is a bowyer who has been at it for a lot of years and stands behind his product. He also makes a lot of fine starter bows for children. I recommend Elk Ridge for a good product at a reasonable price.
