Acadian Woods shooters - Performance??
« on: February 26, 2012, 03:22:00 PM »
Tim Mullins was at the expo at a shoot this weeken. Nice guy and he had some stock bows (t/d longobows) which i shot. Wow at the craftsmanship!!!  Wondering what kind of performance some of you are getting from these bows.
1. speed?
2. how easy to silence?

could be they look so good, no one has ever thougth to chrono one. Anybody with any experience??? Andy Tim, if you read this, thanks for the opp to shoot your bows.
thanks

I have a T/D Treestick.
#1 #60 at 28 3/4 inches. 62 inches long. Custom high pistol grip that duplicated a riser I sent Tim.  I ordered the bow in that weight because I had hurt my shoulder and did not know how long and how well I could shoot it.  The first year I shoot deer, hogs and a Black bear.  No issues with the bow. I was shooting POC with a 160 Snuffer.  Pass thru on the Black bear. After I healed from my injury I went back to shooting #70 +.
#2 I bought a set of 69LBs limbs at 27 inches. 60 inches long. With this setup I have killed deer hogs and javalina.  I shoot 750gr AD shafts.  Last time I chronograghed about 189 fps.  You do have to maintain the right brace for the bow to shoot quiet.  The limbs had antler tips when I bought them.  They lasted two years.  Because of constant water, the tip came off.  I replaces it one more time. When the tip came off again I replaced it with Amazon Iron wood. I would not get any type of natural material for tips. Did you try the Cajun Hunter?  That bow is on my Wish List.

Have a 1 pc. Tree Stick Tim built for me. Great looking and even better shooting bow. With the right brace height and a set of bow hush silencers this bow is dead quiet. Love the grip,
bow shoots where you point.I'm not real big on the arrow speed thing but I've killed a bunch of deer with this bow so I guess it's fast enough!
I know Warren Womack shoots Tim's bows and he's killed more deer than most of us combined. You can't go wrong with one of Tim's bows. Great guy to deal with also.
Hunt hard,but have fun!

You can get Longbow limbs or recurve limbs for your riser.  I am still looking for any extra limbs for my riser.

Love a 1 piece treestick.  It's all you need in performance.  I have shot a few three pieces and I prefer the 1 piece.

I had a 1 piece recurve that was a very good bow also.  One of the quietest recurves I have ever owned.

Since you shot some of Tim's 3 pc treesticks, the simplest answers to your questions about speed and how easy to silence his recurves would be:

1. his 3 pc recurves seem to be a tiny bit faster than his 3 pc treesticks.
2. his 3 pc longbows seem to be a tiny bit easier to silence than his treesticks.

I'm pretty much a chronic bowaholic and have traded a bunch of almost every kind of recurve and longbow that's out there.
My go-to bow is a fine shooting little 56" 3 pc recurve that draws 53# @ 28" but, like most of his bows, is dead quiet, is not spine-picky, and draws like it's 3 or 4 pounds lighter than it is.
And when I do my part, it shoots like it's part of me.
I'm only as good as my first shot.

Man, I have wanted an Acadian Woods for so long now.  They are my favorite looking bow.  I have never shot one though.

I'm defiantly a Acadian Woods fan when it comes to a modern trad bow.... And you will not find a better guy to deal with..
I think I was there talking to Tim when you came back with the tree stick at the show you had test drove...

I have a three piece tree stick.  53#'s at 28"  It is quick and quiet. It is a good feeling in the hand bow and draws much less than the weight shown.

I put a SBD skinny string on it and shoot 3555 Gold tips with a 165 gr Simmons head around 9grpp.  My sons tell me  they hear very little and they shoot.  I have a partial hush puppy on the string top and bottom.  It IS quiet.

Brace height is like any bow, you find the sweet spot.

It has been years since I shot one of his recurves.  Mr Warren shoots one and hunts with it.  THAT ALONE SPEAKS VOLUMES.  Anyone that bowhunts in Louisiana knows who Warren Wommack is.  If you don't, go to Outdoor to the Core.com and find out.   Read the Wommack journals.  He kept a detailed record on every kill with the story. He is a deer hunting unit. He used to shoot a one piece AW recurve. I haven't talked to him in about a year.

Tim's recurves have a deep throat and I like the feel in my hand.  I shot a couple years ago and shot them well.  There is a Louisiana Traditional Bowmen Sterling Harrell Shoot the first weekend in May.  Perhaps Tim will be there.  I am sure some of his bows will.  Mine for sure. If you want information on it, let me know.  The shoot is about an hour north of I-10 just off I-49.
