I am in the same situation, I shoot recurves much better than longbows, and longbows much better than selfbows.
I will never get rid of any of them as I love them all.
Longbows and selfbows definitely take much more practice to become consistent, and even then I limit myself to 15 yards for selfbows and 20-25 yards for longbows in hunting situations. A man's gotta know his limits.
I have learned a couple tricks that help with my longbow accuracy. The first is to have a heavier riser wood. I shoot all of my heavier physical weight longbows better, than lighter ones. So when ordering a longbow, I always ask for the heavy, dense riser wood. The other factor that is huge for me is shooting with a slide on, or strap on bow quiver. The extra weight acts as a stabilizer for me.
I know light weight is one of the reasons for shooting longbows, great for carrying, but not great for my shooting.
I love the feel of longbows vs recurves when shooting. Recurves to me seem soft or mushy. While a longbow is nice and crisp. But I really like the accuracy of my recurves. I think the ticket for me will be a recurve style handle with longbow limbs. Hopefully I will get the accuracy of a recurve with the shooting characteristics of a longbow. Now I just need to pick a bowyer and get one on the way.
What I have learned after 18 years of this trad journey is that it is all fun.
