leather grip Q's
«

Hi.
I'm replacing my leather wrap on my grip. I used Barge Cement last time and I had a hell of a time getting the old one off. What do you use to get the cement off the wood and what should I use to glue the new wrap?
Thanks Joe
PS.. Only 5 months, 2 weeks and 5 days until elk season.

A plastic paint scraper if theres a lot of glue ,and I have used lighter fluid and alcohol and a green scratch pad(go light with rubbing)for the residue.

Joe, 3R sell a leather grip with an adhesive back (peel and stick) not sure how it would hold up compared to Barge cement.

I use Goof Off to get the glue off. Hasn't hurt the finish on my Kanati. Id use barge cement to reinstall the grip. I havent really found anything else better. You might could use some low temp hot glue spread thin or somethin

I also use goof off and then wipe before installing new grip with rubbing alcohol.Tried the self sticking leather but moisture and sweat caused it to roll on the grip. Use Barge or duco. They work best for me.

I've always used LePagges Contact cement. After the old grip is pulled off ,the left over adhesive can be rolled off with thumb preasure alone.
Joe,if you use contact cement DON'T go by the instructions when you put on your new grip ,put the cement on one surface only and put the grip on right away, don't put it on both surfaces then wait.this gives you some room for error and the grip can be moved around.when on then lace the front immediately.

Seems like I've heard Whip advising to use WD-40 to remove adhesive residue...
