Need help finding the past owners of a Hill Cheetah...
« on: March 05, 2012, 11:01:00 AM »
I need to find out some info on a Hill Cheetah I own. I recently posted about it in this thread:   http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=114630

I'd like to track down the previous owners and see if they applied some sort of wax or something on the bow. I want to get the bow back down to the original finish and want to avoid sending the bow back to Craig, if at all possible.

Anyway, I think I bought the bow from Mikebiz, and I think I've seen the bow in some of Mudd's pictures. There are bound to be other owner's, though. If anyone has owned it in the past, could you please post in this thread, or PM me?  Thanks.

Bow specs:

Howard Hill Cheetah
70"
marked 50#@28"
locator grip with burgundy leather, glued seam (not stitched)
orange and tan B50 string
natural colored wool silencers

Here's a not very good picture of the bow, taken right before a deluge.

I think I had that one for a while, I got it a few years ago in Fla. at the TBOF in March. I bought it from Big Jim. When I had it the finish was like new!

The finish still looks great, except for a couple of little spots. The problem is that whatever has been put over the factory finish turns cloudy and waxy when it gets wets. And believe me when I tell you it got wet. It might have been drier if I had left it at home, soaking in my tub.

Try a bit of Min spirits on a rag in a small area.
Sounds like a paste wax was applied.

That SHOULD take it off without harming your sealer.

Try a small spot at first just to be certain.
