"Stick and String" comments on TV
« on: March 14, 2012, 05:37:00 PM »
First off, I am a multi season hunter and enjoy all weapons but of course my recurve is my primary love.

With that being said, nothing gets under my skin like a "pro hunter" on TV saying that I took this animal with "just a stick and string" when they are obviously shooting the latest, greatest engineering marvel produced by Hoyt or Mathews. It's not a stick and string at all!

Does this drive anyone else nuts or am I just getting old and grumpy??

I'd say old and grumpy, but you're entitled to your opinion! :-)

And the funny thing is I still have one of the Mathews mechanical contraptions in my closet and shoot it occasionally...I just don't think it's "stick and string".  Thanks for listening to me ramble!

I'm with you. I will say I don't watch many hunting shows cause they always disappoint me, but once in a while I get on one and the hunter says something like that. Are you kidding me!

Too much technology in compounds to call it "just a stick and string"

I am a big flintlock rifle fan. It also irritates me when some guy says he made meat the way our forefathers did and then shows off his scoped inline muzzleloader. I have read a lot of history but I never saw where Lewis and Clark or Daniel Boone shot a deer with a scoped rifle loaded with powder pellets and plastic saboted jacketed bullets.

I share your frustration

Why let it get under your skin?  Stupid is as stupid does!   Most of the horn porn stars couldn't kill an animal
Fair chase.  It is all about private properties and canned hunts. I don't watch the shows and refuse to buy their products.

Don't watch or listen if it bothers you, it's your choice.

I suppose I get under the skin of the Dark Side when I refer to their "bows" as Mechanical projectile launching devices.    :saywhat:     :archer2:

I dont think your old and grumpy, Compound is anything but a stick and string "To many components on board to call it that".

Nothing wrong with hunting a compound, I did for many years and would not trade those years for nothing!!

I just find trad far more rewarding.

No compound topics....and that includes bashing of them and those who use them.

Thanks for understanding....and I hope you continue to enjoy the site.
