I'm feeling kinda deadly
« on: March 15, 2012, 01:59:00 AM »
I just added 100 grains of weight to the front of my arrow setup. I am now at close to 650 total weight on a goldtip 55/75 with 350 up front. I did this after reading on here that carbons would handle more weight up front that most people think, it was true. I find no differnce in flight other than the expected lower impact (trajectory. The info on here about total arrow weight and single bevel heads ( I got some 250's from Abowyer ) got me to do the change up and I love it! It has even made the bow WAY more quiet. It is going to take some brain conditioning to get used to the new trajectory, but I am already just about spot on under 15 yards.      :notworthy:

Glad you found a set up that works! And congrats on drawing a sheep tag. How hard is it to draw one out there?

No offense but, it must suck to be you! Now you will have nothing to think about other than getting ready for the fall all spring and summer long. Wait... I was wrong, it sucks to be me because it is you that is going on my dream hunt, lol. Congrats on the new set-up and with the upcoming season. Show us your work!

Deadly is a feeling that just puts a smile on my face. Folks probably think that I am in a fugue state, but no, I am just reveling in the feeling that I can have my way with any opponent/game animal. I gotta control the drool better, I think, to be more convincing.

Yeah, my dream hunt too, for a rapidly aging arthritic ol' lady. Wait, lady is a four-letter word...

I just did the same thing, 591 grains (250 up front)out of a 45# LB.  It has a mind of it's own, because I don't shoot that well!

Just added 50 more grains to my GT's.  I am experiencing the same thing.  I'm happy with the results.  Now I can glue a 75 grain steel adapter inside a 175 Aztec.

I have the same arrow set up with my 45# Grizzly.
Full length GT5575s with 225gr field tip and 100 gr brass insert. I've just stepped out to 20 yds and I'm very comfortable at this distance. But for just the hell of it, I tried at 30 yds and the arrow drops quite a bit.

ok now reduce the size of your feathers to 2 to 3 inches max.  you will get even quieter arrows and enjoy just as good arrow flight.

To the questions,.....
Drawing a tag is easy.( Just put in for it and wait  :D    )
OK, well sort of easy, the odds vary on each differnt tag you can apply for in AK. I apply for tags that have a higher succes of being drawn so as to better my odds. I've drawn multiple tags each year for the last several, but only got this one this year. NO complaints, (from me) but some of my friends get jealous because I am so lucky!

I am shooting a 62 inch 55+ lb( I have it dailed up a some) Daala. I forget the exact lenth of my arrows right now, I have a template I cut them to. I did the bare shafting tune with 100 grain inserts and 150 grain Woodsmans. (deadly so far on bears and pigs). The shafts seem to handle the extra 100 grains no problem and no need to retune. For target shooting I am using some prefletched arrows with 3 inch shields. My go to set up for hunting is 5 inch parabolics because they are the quietest to my ear.
