Broken bow in the mail?

Quick question?  If you buy a bow from this site and it shows up broken, what is the right way to handle the deal? I say that the seller has the insurance claim and is now obligated to deal with the post office. He is also responsible to return the funds sent to him by the buyer? Right? Wrong?

That is the way it should work. He is insuring it's value for you. You have already paid him for it. The seller/shipper does not get paid twice.

That's how I feel. He refunds you and gets the insurance claim.

I actually had that happen with fedex-refunded the buyer right away and got refunded by fedex about a month later. No problems.

I have only had one broken in the mail and in my case the receiver filed the claim (I really thought I was supposed to file it myself) and then the PO paid him the money within a week or two. He then sent the check to me for the replacement I was building.

Depends on who you ship with. USPS requires the buyer to file the claim according to their forms.

Have always wondered?  

On a USED BOW from the classifieds how does any one determine the actual value of this piece of wood?

Other then the sellers personal appraisal which USPS or UPS is not going to beleve.  

Will they actualy pay the insured amount??

USPS required the receipt for the bows value at purchase and the insurance and shipping receipt. I had to go back into my paypal account and find the reciept for the transaction and print it.

My husband received a broken bow in the mail.
The bowyer who sent it had to file the claim. He was reimbursed and made a new bow for Mockingbird.

Same thing on an item I bought online at auction. It rattled horribly the way that abused pottery rattles, and sure enough, it was ruined. I was reimbursed by the seller and she filed the claim with the USPS.

Unless some other arrangement was made. Seller gets insurance money and the buyer is refunded by the seller.

I was fighting with the seller and the USPS and after 6 months gave up. The Post Office said he filed the claim but never showed up with the insurance paperwork and the seller claimed the opposite.

seller refunds the buyer an seller deals with the issue on his own. the buyer justs walks without the bow or the headach and with his money

When I sold a Compound bow and it was damaged, the buyer had to take the bow and packaging to the post office and file the claim. The post office payed him and I had to do nothing. I offered to go to my post master, but they took care of it on his end. He wanted me to just send him his money back and do nothing on his end. If I had done that, he would have a broken bow and his money. I would have zero recourse and been out about 450.00. He finally agreed to take everything to the post office and they handled it. Not sure where everyone is getting their info, but this is how it went down, with the USPS. It will be VERY hard to file a claim as a seller. You don't have the damaged bow or packaging and they require you to have both when fileing a claim. Just my experance, yours may vary. It's not a good deal for either party so it will be better if you work together.
