I've got a bunch of scrub oak on my place. Just wondering if it would be good to make a bow out of ?
Thanks, John

Scrub oak is more of a size / shape / locale than species descriptor. Could it be Gambel? The Anasazi used that for their bows.

Depends on what you're callin scrub oak. Around here we have lots of post oaks and they will take over an abandoned field in just a few years. Everyone calls them scrub oaks but they are actually in the white oak family and can be used to make good selfbows if you can find a straight one free of limbs.

i guess it is Quercus gambelii, or Gambel oak. I guess its more of a brush. I do have some thats about 8 inches across the butt and fairly straight.
