Zeiss life time warranty - great
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:05:00 PM »
I bought a used old pair of Zeiss 10x40 armored T* binoculars. When I got them I couldn't get both eyes focused at the same time. I called Zeiss. They said that they were gauranteed for life and to send them to their service department in Va. All repairs were done under warranty.

The eyelenses were worn and they sent me a recommendation to replace them and a estimate. $95.07 to replace the lense and mounts. Naturally I had them do the work.

You can't beat that for customer service and standing behind their products. These glasses are probably 30 years old and who knows how many owners they had.

Man I wish all companies stood behind their products like Zeiss does.

I just thought I would pass this experience on if anyone is considering buying Zeiss. Their warranty is the real deal.

It's great when companies stand behind their products. It leaves such a good feeling with the customer.

Other companies I had excellent service from are Columbia parkas and Boyt guncases. Columbia replaced two zippers and a couple of snaps in a Quad 4 hunting parka AND dry cleaned it for free. Boyt replaced a zipper for free in a gun case that had to have been 60 years old. I was the second owner and the first owner had died years ago in his nineties.

And folks wonder why they cost.  You don't get something for nothing.  I've had Zeiss 10X40 and now have Swaro 10X50 ELs.  Both top shelf!!!

You are right about Zeiss. I have the same pair, but they are newer. I bought them in 2000. I haven't even had to think about the warranty, but it's good to know that if I do they will stand behind them.

Glad to hear that Gil.  I just picked up some 10x42 FL*T's. They are excellent and I hope I never have to use the warranty, but it is comforting to know it is there.

I love to see customer service like that. You don't see it like that a lot anymore.

My wife gave me a pair of Zeiss conquest 8x30 six years ago for Christmas. I love them and have had zero problems with them. They are very nice glasses.

Very similar experience with Swarovski.  At the end of an elk hunt they rattled - I think the prisms had come loose.  Anyway, sent them off to Swarovski in New Jersey and they sent them back to Germany.  It took 2 months but they came back good as new and no charge.

Just the opposite happened with Nikon - 23 years into the 25 year warrantee and they wouldn't do anything, nada, except charge me shipping both ways.  No ranting, just no new business from me.

I had a similar bad experience with Nikon with a range finder.

Leupold on the other hand took care of me like Zeiss did. I had one of their spotting scopes that got caught in a flood. It was gauranted for life. I sent them the scope and they sent me a new one, no questions asked.

You know I will be buying Leupold and Zeiss again, Nikon is out of the question.

I've had excellent service from both Swarovski and Leupold.  They both exceeded my expectations.

This is just another reason why many of us implore other hardcore hunters to buy the best glass they can afford. It will save you money in the long run. All three of the big three glass companies offer very similar warranties. I'm a Leica fan and am already money ahead considering the number of pairs of cheaper binoculars I went through that mostly sat in my truck while I was after the deer. I now never step foot in the woods without them. I'm glad for your experience.

I too had the same experience with Zeiss. I have a pair of 8X20's that I purchased probably a dozen or more years ago. Last year I noticed I couldn't get get the right side in focus. I still had the box with the paperwork that stated a lifetime warranty.

I called Zeiss, they told me to ship them to Richmond and they repaired them at no cost. I'm very please with their customer service and wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them again.
