Illinois Frog Hunt invite
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:43:00 PM »
Frog Season is just around the corner. In most states, season comes in from may to june and last several months. Bag limits can average 8/night. Check your local game laws, every state seems to have thier twist on rules. My gruop here in illinois typically hunts 10-15 nights a year and we stock pile our quarry for an end of the year cookout. It sure doesnt take much to kill a frog and you can use about anything from a bare shaft to a nail glued in the arrow with bows as small as 7 lbs. Most of my group uses the Frog Spear on our hunts for several reasons.

1.it stays in the frog which increases recovery of the frog and the arrow

2. its easy to hit them, you can be offline by 3" and still get the frog(which is good for myself and "most" of my friends)

3. the wires keep them from getting off.

4. the arrow will only go a few inches into the mudd when you hit or miss

5. when a frog is in open water, the spear hits the frog impales it and stops instead of going thruogh the frog and deep into the water. If you miss, the design keeps the spear from going very far under the water which limits arrow loss.

6. The spear requires very little bow weight to effectively hunt
and the kids seem to love them because the frogs are easy to hit with the spear.

We really do have a lot of fun in the summer, its not uncommon for 10 of us plus kids to be out most of the night. If you havent hunted frogs, give it a try. Take a young hunter, they will thank you for it.

If anyone is in the central illinois area and would like to come join us pm me or you can get all my contact info from my website. I have over 40 acres of wetlands on my property and several large ponds. We usually camp out a few weekends with the kids and kill a bunch of frogs.

P.S. any ill guys come visit us at the ILL DEER and TURKEY expo this weekend in Peoria.  booth 606. And We will be in Madison, Wi at their deer and turkey expo the following weekend

Thanks for bringing this up. My daughter is wanting to get her first bow. She's much too young to do any "real" hunting, but frogs is a good option. I'll have to find some ponds or something.
