Riddle me this Tune Masters

I've got two shafts both 28 inches long and I'm trying to work up an arrow for a 54@26 HH Cheetah (I draw just a tad under that). One is a 2016 with 225gr head, the other - a 1916 with 175gr head. If I punch these setups into Stu's calculator I have a spine difference of 0.7lbs with the 2016 being the stiffer of the two.

When shooting these arrows the 1916 shows really weak. The 2016 falls more onto target but still flies pretty noticeably tail right (i.e. stiff for a right handed shooter). Dropping point weight on the 2016 to 200 doesn't really alter anything by way of arrow flight.

I doubt very much that the bow is that sensitive to spine, I asked Craig to cut it 1/16th from centre.....

I would think that both of those arrows would be to weak with that much point weight on them. When I shot alluminums, I used a 28.5" 2018 with 150 grain head out of a deflex/reflex longbow that pulls 54#@27.5" and is cut 1/16" from center. I think if you want to use that much point weight you will need to use a 2117 or bigger.

I agree with James.  I shoot a Pronghorn cut to about 1/16" from center, 57#@28.5 inches and shoot a 30" 2018 with 145 grain point or a 2020 with a 175-grain point. I suspect your arrows are too weak.

The 1916 flies weak so I'm inclined to agree, I don't get how the 2016 flies totally different (i.e. stiff) despite the completely minor difference in spine...

I didn't understand much of what was written here but that's my short coming.

I only opened the thread because I loved the way you approached the subject.

It sounded so much like a line out of a book that I am reading ("Sherwood") not the easiest reading I've ever done but a great read.

Just for kicks try dropping to 125gr points to rule out false stiff. Are these bareshaft? How are you tuning?

something else to look at is the diameter, the 1916 is closer to centershot.

Don't pay attention to the tail of the arrow in flight.  Pay attention to where the arrow impacts.  Like mentioned above, I would bet that both of those shafts are too weak.  First I would try cutting the 2016 down since it sounds like they are plenty long.  Next I would try a 2018, but it you really want alot of weight up front, you might have to go even stiffer.

if the 2016 is showing "stiff" with 225gr you need more weight up front or a longer arrow.........2016 should be about right or split the difference between 1916 with a 2014.......2018 sounds way stiff as I shoot 29.5 inch 2018s out of a 63@28 Hill Halfbreed and 190 gr TPW(total point weight)...........

Just my 2 cents, but I'd FIRST go to lighter points. I shoot 2018s with my 51#@28(my dl), with 150grn Woodsman BH. I also shoot 2016s cut 29" with my 50#@28" Tomahawk longbow.125grn points. Both fly fine

just for giggles and realize some of these have the xx75's that are slightly different in spine

1916 - 55lb  xx75 is 53lb
2016 - 63lb xx75 is 61

some others mentioned
2018 - 70
2117 is 81/84

Dont forget to factor in that a 19## is going to shoot differently than a 21## just because of diameter alone.  

a 1918 is 60lbs and a 1920 is 65lbs if you can find them.   a 2018 is 70 and a 2020 is 77/80.  Some others, 2114 is 64, 2115 70.
