stu's calculator help please
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:25:00 PM »
I have a 1966 bear grizzly recurve that I need to tune a little better. It's 42# @ 28 I have a 27.5 draw length. Right now I shoot Beman classic in 500 spine. Arrow length is 30inchs with a 75 grain insert and 125 tip. Brace height is at 8.250. I don't what the center shot is. I shoot split finger. I shot them thru paper and it shows a tear right about 1.500. Thanks Don

You may wish to give a 175 tip a go in order to put some perspective on your current set-up.

I think you need a little heavier point out front as well.

The older bear is 0 center cut. Did not know what thickness you side plate is so I used 1/8.

Like the others said little bit more weight up front should work for you.

Thanks for all the info, I will be able to shoot on sunday. I will let you know what the out come is. The only thing that I am not sure about is  the f.o.c. Right now my arrows are at about 16% the book I have says 7-10% I guess the results will speak for themselfs. I also might try some 600 spine Beman Classics if I can find some in my area.  Also thank you metsastaja for running my set up on stu'calcultor. Thanks again to all

I do not know what "book" you are referring to but the more FOC, the better. My current set-up is at 22.7% FOC.

Bisch, The book I got my info for FOC is from, The Traditional Bowhunters Handbook by T.J. Conrad. It's on page 157. But like I said the results will speak for themself. I'm just trying to tweak my set up to get better at shooting. Thanks for the info. Don

I called all the local bow shops, nobody has heavier tips for the beman classics. so I am going to order some thru three rivers. So the testing will have to wait until I get the heavier tips. I will post as soon as I get the tips. Thanks Don
