If you do a search, you will find a thread from not too long ago about this.  You'll also find a few threads about turkey broadheads.

Not many guys use the SPUR and we don't sell many of them.  Most guys are using the same set up (or something similiar) to what they use for whitetails.  I personally have settled on using VPA 160 grain 3 blades this year.

Actually they are selling pretty good this year. We are sold out of 125s, and only have a few packs of 100s and 150s left.  The barbless versions of the 125s and 150s will be out in a week or so. We were late bringing them out last year and kind of missed the spring season.  Then we were somewhat blindsided by all the states with laws about barbed broadheads as there are no such laws in IN or VA, so there were only a few birds taken with them last spring.  There were quite a few taken with them in the fall.  Some of which are on the vparchery.com website.  A big double beard with 1 1/2" spur taken with them on opening day last spring was on the cover of Ohio Outdoor News last year. Its picture is on the website as well. I killed the first bird with the prototype in the fall of 2010.  They perform as they were designed.    Basic Pyramid design.  The rear Spur blades are in line with the front section so they sharpen easily just like the VPA 3 blades they are based on....I use bench stones.  If you want 100s or 150s I have them in the rayzor-vpa.com webstore.  The unbarbed versions are no on there yet ut will be once they are ready to ship.  Use tradgang as a coupon code for free shipping.

OK, I am going to try this again since I have the experts here.

What is the cut out area suppsed to do?

To me, since it is in line, isn't it  just going to follow along the original hole.  Or is the cutout supposed to allow the hole to collapse, gather up more feathers and flesh, and cause more damage as well as limit penetration?

Just looking at it, to me, offsetting the rear blades 30 degrees to put them right in the middle of the front 3 would be devastating.  That would require no new tooling, just a different program, right?

Actually closer to your or  >>>>=============>->

Keep this in mind.  That space between the front and rear section is not a continual cutting edge.  It is a step in cutting diameter(no collapse required).  The leading edge of the rear blade portion is flat and unsharpened.  The outer edge is sharpened to get around cutting diameter laws and make them easier to resharpen... and yes they take feathers, meat and bone with them causing major damage.   That decellerates them much more rapidly than a sharp continual cutting edge. Rapid decelleration-maximum energy transfer.  No theory there.

I actually thought of offsetting the rear blades too.  Makes them harder to sharpen/resharpen and is not  necessary for them to perform the way they were intended.

They are tough on broadhead targets too.  You won't want to shoot them repeatedly.  Just verify the point of impact.  You will be pulling chunks out during withdrawal.

All VPA products have a 100% satisfaction guarantee.  If you aren't happy with our products return them for a refund.

Makes sense.  Any chance there will be a 250g version?

I hear ya.

Any info on what VPA's idea for this design is? I'm wondering why turkeys warrant a special head?

SteveO-  No 250 in the immediate future.

This year we were just trying to get the nonbarbed versions out before spring as we didn't realize how many states had barbed laws when we brought these out.  Its not an issue in VA or IN.  We ran into delays, of course, but will have 125s and 150s out Non-Barbed next week....better late than never I guess.
