Question about Snake Skins
«
on:
March 28, 2012, 06:58:00 PM »
I've got some copperhead and bull snake skins.... I would really like to see some pictures of them used over BLACK GLASS limbs.
I've got a Bear Takedown I think I'd like to skin the limbs but I want to see what they look like over the black glass.

Thank you Drifter... Very nice bows!!
I think your right the Bull Snakes will probably hold there color over the black better than the Copperheads. I guess I could paint the limbs a lighter color first. I've done Copperheads over Osage and it's striking color?

I think guys paint the limbs sometimes before applying certain skins like copperheads to bring out the true color and pattern better. I'm might be wrong, some of the bowyers should chime in before long.

I paint my self bow backs white before copperheads as well as bullsnake. Diamondbacks are best with black backs. I thing a black back ruins the look of copperheads, I did one like that one time on a bow for my wife and it didn't look as good as the onew with the white back.

A butterscotch, coppery color works best on copperheads.

You could also paint the limbs yellow or another color that compliments the bull snake. My zipper's carbon limbs were painted yellow before the skins were applied. Allows the contrast to remain more distinct.

There you have it. The best advise from two masters, Bob and Mike. Both do outstanding snake skins.

Thank you guys.... I kind of felt the same way about the black and thought it might kill the color.
One more question? What kind of paint do you use?

I use a water base paint for the white and an alcohol base dye for the black.
