Thought I'd share my experiment (pics as requested)
« on: April 02, 2012, 08:22:00 PM »
Just got back from a bike/hobby shop.  I was looking for some type of material to put on my "new" used bow.  I wanted to try the PosiGrip.  But alas, I'm too cheap and thought I think I can come up with something.

So for the last few days I've noodled it over and over.  It then hit me, an inner tube!

So, I gave the shop a call and asked when they take out their trash   ;)   .  The store asked why I was asking and I explained I was looking for an inner tube that could be cut up and used for handle material.  He said he'd put a popped one aside and I went and picked it up.

I got home, cut a 4" section out of the tube and slid it on the bow.  It wasn't quite that easy but that's the jist.

I know have a bow that has a new grip.  Woo hoo!  Just thought I'd share this tip.  I haven't seen it here before.

Wal-Mart sells a rubber, stretchy slip on tennis racquet (spelling?) grip called What-a-Grip, they are about $3. They are about 6-7 inches long if I remember right, easily cut with sharp scissors.  Not as thick as the inner tube but a tacky type rubber grip. I put one on my Bear Montana longbow when the factory grip crapped out and it seems to holding up very well.

I can post some pics for everyone.  I thought those might be requested.  I'll bring this back up the top on Thursday with pics.

X2 on the tennis grip.  They go on most all of my bows and are cheap.

Here's those pictures as requested.  Please forgive the poor quality, old camera + too much coffee = blurry pic.

First pic is of the inner tube with the section missing already.  All I had to use was the kitchen scissors.  I'm not sure what size I was given, beggers can't be choosers!

Next photo is for reference.  I cut a 4" section out of the tube.

Last photo shows the section of inner tube on the bow.  Like I mentioned above I simply took the string off of the lower limb and slip it up.  As I got closer to the handle is naturally get's wider and thicker.  I did have to roll it at that point.  But, a little patience and bingo, we're there.

Hope this helps someone, all it cost me was the gas to and from the bike shop!
