String Tuning

I'm 68 and my shoulder has been complaining about the number of arrows involved in doing 3D with my 50# hunting bow. I wanted to maintain the same GPP as my hunting setup.
So I dug out a 35# recurve and some 50# 5/16 shafting. Should have worked well- no, way underspined;
First thing; swap out 125 gr tips for 100 gn-slight improvement; then I removed the 6 strand D97 string and replaced it with a 12 strand D97-the shafts were still too soft but better again. Not good enough for bareshafting though and I did not want to get new shafts.
 So then I decided to put on a 14 strand Dacron string and bingo! perfect flight bareshafting out to 25 yds.
Throwing that out as an alternative to buying new shafting and waiting for the postman to deliver. String tuning turned out to be pretty efficient-y'all ever try that?

Absolutely Bjorn. I also use my silencers to fine tune as well. You would be amazed how much difference you will see in bare shaft tuning by simply adding, removing some, or even moving your silencers.

Agree strongly with both posts.  Sometimes it’s the little things we overlook.  Exhaust the possibilities before giving up.  All kinds of tricks to the trade...keeps it interesting and fun.

Oh yeah. I couldn't shoot my heavy Tip the month of March because I had an old school 18 strand endless on it, bought a 14 strand endless (not thinking anything of it) and WOW! My arrows were WAY to weak. So I went to a 16 and ended up with another 18 strand with .014 halo serving. I put GT nocks on my Heritage 350's and they fly perfect again. Quite the ordeal for just trying to have a back up string.

Me too. It's never let me down with the number of strands I shoot.

I haven't put silencers on the string and don't think I will it is very quiet, only a slight twang, and will only be a 3d setup.
