Arrow question
« on: April 18, 2012, 01:00:00 AM »
I shoot a 55# @ 28" l/b, my draw is 26", and I currently shoot a 28" 3555 g.t. w/225 grns. up front with 3-5" feathers. I seem to shoot all right but would like something heavier. I have an opportunity to get some 7595 g.t. shafts fairly cheap. According to Stu's calculator a 30" 7597 g.t. with 275 grns. up front should work fine, what do you guys think?  :dunno:

I would try a 55/75 first.

I think even with 275 grs. upfront a 75/95 will still be stiff for roughly a 49#@26 at your draw length for a longbow.Maybe if it was a recurve cut past center.I would maybe go with a 400 spine with more weight upfront.Start full length and trim and tune from there.Stiff arrows on a longbow with a riser cut off center can be alittle tougher to tune unless they are longer.I tried to tune some stiffer arrows I bought used, they were only a 1" longer then my draw. They were showing too stiff so I thought I can add more weight upfront. They got worse the more weight I added, they were in effect bouncing off the riser instead of flexing around it.I did tune the same spine for it but they ended up being two inches longer.A CE Heritage 150 has a higher gpi then a GT 35/55,will give you alot heavier arrow the a 35/55.

I'm shooting GT 35/55 traditionals w 100gr insert and 145gr tip, 4 x 4" feathers.  They come in just under 500gr. Perfect flight with my Big Jim Thunderchild 54# @ 28. & my 26 in draw.  My arrows are cut to 27 1/4 in.

I'm shooting 31" 5575s at 49#@29" with 175 gr. up front and 4x4" feathers. Bare shafts fly like bullets from my recurve. My slightly heavier not so much center cut longbow ... not so much.

My 3/16th" center cut bare shafted me into 7795s and I was having a heck of a time until I learned a little about building up the strike plate. That sent me back to 5575s.

I'd stay away from 7795s if I were you.

Richie, you will never get those to shoot. I used to shoot them out of my 82# LB with my 30.5" draw and 400g up front. All the weight in the world won't get them to fly from your bow.

If you want to get more weight, You could cut your 3555's down another 3/4- 1" and add a considerable amount of weight to make up for your shafts being cut shorter. Adjusting shaft length has a much greater impace on arrow flight than does changing pt weight.

Also with all that weight up front, your arrow will fly much better and also penetrate much better.
Other wise, you "might" be able to get a full length 5575 with about 250-400 up front to shoot.
Good luck with whatever you choose,
