My neighbor called this morn and invited me to a local 3-D shoot. For me it was a matter of cutting down some trees, grocery shopping or replacing the tran fluid in the truck. Glad I changed the fluid before he called.
Anyway, when we walked into the local church with our stick bows we immediately got some remarks from some of the locals...Oh Oh, here comes some bow hunters...  :goldtooth:    :goldtooth: .
Anyway, on the course we encountered numerous 3-d challenges which ranged from 10 to 40 yds. I shot targets that represented most of North America and Africa. I even shot Sasaquatch, "twice". How cool is that??...  :goldtooth:
Most of which I hit but "MY" best shot was a "2 fer". Yes I aimed at a "3-D Green Dragon", hit a tree and my arrow  richoted and hit a "Triceratops" dinosaur. I'm telling, you cant make this stuff up.
What a great Saturday...  :goldtooth:

I shot 3-d today with KHALVERSON. We were close in score and my turn to choose the shot so I shot from one of the longer distance stakes. Good shot too, but only scored an 8. KH shoots, richochets off a tree and scores a 10 ! We talked about that shot for the rest of the course! What fun, and the weather was perfect. A great day to shoot 3-d in Michigan!

We have a 3 day shoot next weekend and I can't wait to see what the new Toelke will do.

Love 3-D shooting.

Gonna dodge raindrops this morning to do just that. What a great way to get into the woods and have fun. Our course is very hilly, so it is good for you, too.   :D

My feet are going to hate me.   :knothead:

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

Thanks Killy, always good to hear from you. My old bones, joints, and muscles have reminded me " less is more". But I'm, too stubborn to listen. Besides, its a good pain. IMO

I think I had as much fun as you did, Rustic!
I shot the course, did fairly well, and had a tasty lunch. I was about ready to go, and in walked a Browning Cobra 2, accompanied by some guy.

Seems he had made one of those yard sale deals that we all dream about, and now he had some new arras and wanted to know if the bow was safe to shoot. And he had come to the club to shoot 3D. And he had not shot since high school PE class, plus yesterday after he bought it and went and  got some arrows.

I played around with his too-long string, was amazed that his arrows were the correct spine and had feathers (I think they were made with Boy Scout merit badges in mind.), and took him to the practice butts.

He was good. I shot another round of 3D and I think he outshot me. His feathers fell off one by one, and I was fletching till about 8:00 before we called it quits.

A good day at the range!

I agree. Shooting 3D's is fun and much better than doing chores. After I get my new house settled and get the twenty things done that needed to be done yesterday done. I will do just that. Glad you guys were able to go!

When my son was younger, we use to shoot the Rochester, MN trad shoot every year.  While shooting at a baboon ( i wont say who) the arrow was shot, hit a large limb and proceded to explode.  We moved up to retrieve the well placed shot by my son to discover the 12" tip of my arrow dead center in the baboon.  Can't say i've got any better.  Some of the best fun at those shoots.

That guy was me!  Many thanks Killdeer for being such a great ambassador for the sport.  You went way above and beyond helping a new shooter.  I am now offically hooked on trad.  Tomorrow is my wife's birthday and I got her a 30# Samick Sage so that we can shoot 3-D as a family. Again, many thanks Killdeer!

Well, you finally made it on board!
Welcome!   :saywhat:

I hope your wife enjoys the bow as much as you. She must be a real pistol! Do you have arrows for her? (about a 1716 aluminum should do nicely.)
