stumping with a mountain longbeard!!!!
« on: April 23, 2012, 07:03:00 AM »
myself and 3Feathers went stumping/turkey scouting yesterday and what a day!!!! weather was perfect and no bugs which had been heavy latly. stumping went great and some awesome shots were made. as we closed in to the ridge that we will be hunting we stopped to make plans. i said this is where i expect them to be and pointed down the ridge to open hard woods. as if on command a gobbler let lose, then another!! we listed for awhile then moved in closer to hear the mountain music.  Tim said let me try something and let out 3 short whistle's like a key key run call of the fall. the response was explosive! he continued to gobble to the whistle and before we knew it a boss longbeard and a jake were walking straight to us! we watched as the boss (10 inch or plus beard) strutted and walked to with in 20 yards of us. we shut up and let them pass gobbling their fool heads off. what a RUSH!!! if only that could have been opening day!!! if we were set up and had a call there is no doubt a 7-10 yard shot would have been presented! OHHHHHH what a morning!!!!

Imagine a Adirondack Gobbler with a LongBow,It doesn,t get any better than that.It was a rush I heard that Boss tom spitting and drumming or was that Adirondack-Ken making that noise!!!!!!!Had a great stumping and scouting trip, was good to enjoy the time with a good friend.

Hope your educating them birds Ken. Their smart enough without showing them your bag of tricks!! Glad you had a good time........

You bringing Woodchucker up there for the opener? I'm sure he could use some time away and what better way to spend a half day....calling and chasing down Turkeys.

Sounds like a great time with a friend.  But on the other hand, they don't have to see you to learn.  They dont see anything and learn not to go to calls because nothing will be there next time.

Nah Joe, too much of a liability!  every time we bring woodchucker out he has bears jump over the top of him or other strange events as such   :readit:

It would be great to see chuck again!!!  send him up this way!
