cedar test kits?
« on: April 24, 2012, 09:19:00 PM »
Who sells cedar test kits like the ones braveheart sells for surewood shafts?

I'm looking possibly to build some wood arrows that are around 550-575gn and fly as well as the cedars I have, but I do not know their spine. I also need to add about an half an inch to an inch to the length. I'm guessing the surewoods would be too heavy with 125-160 grain points

Doug fir is generally heavier than cedar but its weight varies quite a bit so it might be possible to get it in the same weight as your cedars.

Know anyone with a spine tester?  If so, could test those you have, add 5# of spine for the additional inch of length you want to add.  Then figure the bare shaft weight you need to arrive at 550-575 grain arrow, and see if your vendor has it in either cedar, fir, spruce, poplar, or whatever.  Good luck.

Surewoods would not be too heavy if you requested the weight range you wanted...you'd need around 400-425 grains raw very do-able with Surewoods in most spines.  Cedar should also work for you as would Spruce, that's a pretty typical finished arrow weight you shouldn't have any trouble finding shafts that will work.

Thanks Tim, I will probably just order surewoods then from you when I am ready to buy.
