Hog arrow... Too heavy???

I'm shooting a Tomahawk 55 pound longbow my total arrow weight was 535 grains. I ordered some weight tubes for my carbon arrows that would bring my arrows up to 685 grains total weight did I go overboard ??? Is this too much or should this be okay. My broadhead is a WW 3 blade. Are there any disadvantages to using the weight Tubes?

Is the broadhead razor sharp, and does the arrow go exactly where you are looking at up to the maximum distance you are comfortable shooting at?  If you answer both of those, yes, then you are fine, if either or both are no, you need to sharpen them and practice till you are proficient with the equipment you go hunting with.

I would say it all depends on how you are hitting with that arrow out of your bow. Either arrow will do the job if you are hitting the vitals-so go with the more accurate set up. Killing hogs requires a well placed shot and the extra weight won't help at all if your arrow is misplaced.

I hail from Northern California and have hunted hogs for quite some time and have witnessed a lot of hogs taken with arrows that weigh in at 535 grains and less.  One good friend of mine that has killed a lot of hogs (and has shot completely through several) hunts with a 50-55 lb. recurve and shoots arrows with three blade heads that weigh slightly less than yours do at 535 grains.  You will kill hogs either way as long as your arrows are flying well out of your bow but I would add that since your current setup is with a 535 grain arrow that is what your confidence will be based on so stay with that.  Post up your hog when you get one.

Thanks....I have a hunt in two week so I will not be adding the weight tubes until after I get back from that hunt. Does anyone use weight tubes? Do they work well? Any negative to them?

I think both setups will work fine, but I would go with the heavier set up if it is flying true. I'm shooting the new Legacy series Tomahawk 55# with a 650 grain arrow. This setup hits very hard and is whisper quiet. Tomahawk bows retain their speed very well with a heavy arrow. Even with my setup I am still getting around 165 fps. I find that once you get too heavy for the bow to be fairly quick (over 150 fps) you miss a lot of game due to them having completely ducked the arrow.

I have used the tubes in the past,only drawback I ever had was that they would sometimes pop the nock out if I hit something hard,Still a good way to bump weight up. I did change to goldtip for the brass weights,loads up the front end better for me add a little loc-tite and things stay put too.

Question, do the weight tubes stiffen the spine of an arrow? Alway wondered that?

Tried weight tubes a couple of times. Don't like them...would rather add weight up front.

I don't like the weight tubes at all. They didn't fly well for me. I used brass inserts with heavy points instead. As far as a 535gr arrow i think you will be fine. I shot this 235lb hog with a 530gr arrow, GT 55/75 with 50gr brass insert and 200gr phantom broadhead out of my 55lb palmer @ 26" draw. the arrow went through the 1 3/4 inch shield and buried in the shield on the other side. He went down in 30 yards. Good luck!
