Mono center serving?
« on: May 06, 2012, 07:40:00 PM »
I bought a used bow and the string had mono center serving like we all used to shoot. I twisted up a Dyna 97 with Halo. Decided to shoot the old string and I got a much better release with the mono. Can you still buy the mono. I use to hate it, but with my crappy release, I can use all the help I can get   :D   . Don

I've actually thought about trying the mono serving again. It seems that the mono never separates like the nylon... As far as buying mono, you can use fishing line. It's been a long time and I don't remember what poundage fishing line that I used many moons ago.

I've been using mono servings for about 15 years and have never had one break on me from use/wear. I like it because of the wear resistance and consistency for a mild snap nock fit. It holds its shape and does not skinny down like braided nylon or some of the others.

I use the Brownell #4 (.018 I think), but I suspect any fishing line would work just as well. I also have some of the heavier Brownell but prefer the smaller diameter.
I had a really good group going... until I shot the second arrow.

My best bows are the ones someone else didn't want.

I've used mono before, but will it slide around on the newer string materials?
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

I always hated mono servings. They were the only ones that wanted to separate or move on me.  Never a problem with the nylon or braided fastflight

I'm really dating my age here, but when we used to use mono for trad serving, we used 30# test fishing line for our Easton Super Nocks.

Trilene Big Game mono fishing line was the "preferred" mono back then.      :D

If one is shooting carbon arrows with smaller carbon arrow nocks, the fishing line test will most likely be smaller than 30# test mono fishing line.

I agree with dnovo, mono didn't work too well for me on my heavy bows.  Once they invented fastflight serving I was sold.

My Leon Stewart longbows all have mono serving with fastflight strings, which provide a good release. Leon told me that he uses 30# test mono. He does twist the string pretty tight.
The work praises the man.
