Nirk Nocks
« on: May 08, 2012, 12:55:00 PM »
Many years ago, Nirk was the "go to" nock, at least for me. I loved them, they were all that I shot. About 18 years ago I drifted away from them to another brand.

In March I ordered a couple dozen Nirks from a sponsor here on TG. With the exception of having to trim a few casting sprues they looked really great.

After a month or so of shooting, four nocks have broken, not from damage but what appears to me to be failure of the plastic. Two have split at the base, up vertical. The other two have actually split in the string groove. I did not keep the broken nocks nor did I take a picture of them. I simply tossed them and glued another one on.

Anyone else had this experience with the Nirk?

I will be watching this one. I just bought 3 dozen black nirk nocks to use. I am still waiting on shafts so I haven't used them yet.
God Bless

I also shoot the nirk nocks but luckily have not had any problems with them.

I still have a bunch but I haven't shot any in a while. I really liked them and never had any problems.

I haven't used any lately simply because the color I have doesn't match the color of the fletching that I shoot these days. LOL!

(In actuality, the color of my nirk nocks are not quite as visible as the ones I use now either... and I like my nocks to be bright!)

I'm sure that I will use them again sometime.

My guess would be that if it is an old batch and if they were not stored in the dark, or at least out of direct light, the plastic would deteriorate somewhat through the years.

Ric,  I too used to use then exclusively.  A couple years ago, I bought some (yellow)at an archery event from one of the vendors.  They failed frequently like  described.  I just thought that maybe the ones I  had gotten had sat in the sun too long at various events and that UV (or something) had weakened the nocks.  So went back to the Bohning index nocks. Never have had a problem with them.

Sorry to hear about your problem with these nocks; I use them also and need to order some soon.  I hope this problem isn't common.

I also have issues with white Nirk nocks. The same as Ric. I bought a100 so I am out a couple of bucks. I also have a few doz flo green but do not want to use them. They are on my discard list and when I able to get around the shop they are gone.

I only had white fail. It seemed like a different plastic. Other colors worked great for me.

I should have noted in my initial post, the Nirks that failed were white. I have no experience with any other color.
