SE Georgia hog hunt?
« on: May 09, 2012, 07:39:00 PM »
Headed to St. Mary's, Georgia on May 18 for a week long visit with my son to meet my new Grandson. Just wondered if there is any good hog hunting anywhere nearby that me and Son can hunt a day or two during the week. Public land or private, either would be nice. Me and boy have not hunted together for many years as he just pulled a 5 year stint in the Marines. Any suggestions appreciated.

You probably have already looked into it, but how bout King's Bay? I'm guessing that's where your boy worked since he lives right down the road. If you haven't checked, I'll try to get you some info. I know they have plenty of good fishing there.  Congratulations on the new grand baby!

Score! Talked to MWR just now. Hunting is allowed on base. Hogs, year round. According to the gentleman I spoke to, they are thick out there. He said they are tearing up the golf course. All hunts have to be approved and scheduled through the game warden. I will send you contact info via private message.

Thanks Jorja Boy ! Yes, he was a marine security at the Kings Bay naval base for a while, which is where he met his wife. I will ask him about that. Thanks for the contact info !

Another vote for Fort Stewart.  There is an archery qualification requirement.  2 out of 3 in a 9" circle at 20 yards and also at 30 yards from an elevated stand if I remember correctly.

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.

There is no hunting on Ga. WMA`s after Turkey season is over and I think that is May 16.Fort Stewart or Kings Bay would be your only public land option.
The fort stewart test is 15 and 20 yards for trad archers and not elevated. You have to call ahead for an appointment to take it on Saturday or Thursdays only.RC
