Compare Pronghorn to Mohawk Longbow
« on: May 11, 2012, 07:08:00 AM »
A Pronghorn longbow is the reason I am in traditional archery.  I shot one in a shop in Kansas City 15 years ago.  I went in a couple of days later to buy the bow...and it was sold.  I left the shop with a Martin Hunter.

I have read much about Mohawk Longbows.  It really looks sharp to me.

So, I have a question for those of you who have shot both of these bows.  How does the Pronghorn compare to a Mohawk?

They are 2 different types of bows. The pronghorn is a great bow, has more mass and is very stable. That being said, I shoot a Mohawk, as does my son. They are both great bows, but in the end it really is a personal choice  :)

I`ve owned both. Both were near the same pounds and very good bows. The Pronghorn may have been a touch faster if that matters to you but I really enjoy shooting the Mohawk and right now it is my go-to bow.RC

Just a matter of which on you like the most.

Either of the bows and their makers have a flawless reputation from what I've seen over the years.

Thats regular Mohawk. The first pic is an osage pronhorn. The only "new" hawk I know of is the sparrowHawk.Vince has been making those a while now.RC

I have a 60" and 62" Pronghorn (3 pc. T/Ds) there are differences between the two, both have more R&D than the Mohawk (don't own), or Robertson Fatal Styk Longbow (16" riser), which I do own. The latter two will be lighter in physial weight, but not a problem. The Pronghorn is a bit smoother IMO, due to the weight in the 15" riser, and shorter working limb. The Pronghorn is approximately 23" from fade-out to fade-out, and the Robertson is 16". Prices for the three vary quite a bit.   :goldtooth:
