My take on the ILF system
« on: May 15, 2012, 08:40:00 PM »
Folks... I bit on the ILF bow thing last year...

It seems too good to be true... One riser... Almost unlimited choice of limbs... There are some exceptional choices of limbs out there... I decided to go with the Olympic style carbon foam limbs, because of bang for the buck!!!

I can't compare them to the trad limbs, but figured with the money invested in R & D for olympic style limbs, that going with them would give me as musch or better speed and consistency that the trad limbs at twice the price...

However, I do try and support our trad guys and TG sponsors... So I ordered an in stock phenolic/wood min-13 riser from Bob Morrison... And then a set of KAYA Tom CatII carbon foam limbs... and a SBD string...

Well I was a whip shooter... Took a lil getting used to the extra mass weight... But my morrison wood/phenolic riser worked great with a set of Kaya Tomcat carbon foam limbs!!! It shoots sweet, quick, and quietly... After 6 months, I figure I have this bow figured out...

It shoots like a bow.. you figure it out and it does what you expect.. After not shooting for a month, I picked it up today and was hitting my standard playing card at 15-20 yds half the time and very close the other 50% of the time...

It is quiet.. Most folks buy the trad limbs... and I would love a set of longbow limbs.. But I have a stay at home wife and three kids... It isn't in the cards in this economy...

I doubt they can be any smoother or any faster than my OLympic limbs, especially for the price...

I still love my whips, but for a bow that can break down... That i can be at a different weight with a couple hundred $$ set of limbs I can't see doing anything else...  It is smoother than the typical recurve.. It is quiet, but has a lil different sound than other bows I have shot...

I tried tuning the bow tiller since I shoot three under... an eighth turn or so on the ILF system had the bow VERY QUIET!!!

I guess I just figured that I would share my experience...   :dunno:   I am very happy with the bow.. It shoots very well and very easily... It takes down and is quiet... and with the off the rack limbs it is PHENOMENAL shooter... I can't say for the made for trad limbs... But I just used the wallywerld Allens camo tape on mine and it works well...

I don't believe that the bow is what makes you shoot well.. I think the grip does matter to shoot well... and Bob's grip is great... But it is the building confidence and muscle memory to where you and the bow become one...

Would I recommend an ILF bow? If you want a versatile bow that you  can change weight easily.. find a wide choice of limbs...  all for a reasonable price... SURE!! I think it is a much better value than most bows once you buy a second set of limbs... And you could do a short or longer set for a turkey or blind hunting vs  another set for a mule deer hunt...

I can say it is probably faster than my whip, but wouldn't say it is inherently quieter or more accurate... But it allows more options at a cheaper price than buying a new bow... I actually bought this bow instead of a bear take down

I know I rambled on, but just figured I would share....

I'm in the process of building a wark ILF system right now. I can't wait ta get it finished, but it'll be a while as I have to slowly collect the funds for it.

I've just started looking @ ILF equipment, and have been very impressed with the endless combinations out there. I'm saving my pennies now, gonna find a good riser and go from there.
