Brace height?

Hi,
I have a Shakespeare Wonderbow 62" 30#, a Ben Pearson Collegian 60" 35# & a Shapespeare Archery 52" 45#
What would be the brace height range for each.
I have to turn the 12 strand flemish string on my Shakespeare Wonderbow 40 turns to achieve 7 1/2" brace height. It doesn't coil or kink when taken off tension. Still, I imagine it's time to get a new bow string. Does the bowstring lose strength with too many turns becoming a hazard & what is the max number of turns?
Thanks

Welcome to TradGang Keshet.
Sounds like 40 twists is a bit much.
If you research the AMO string recommendation on each and get you an endless loop string for each you'll be at/near the manufacturers brace recommendations. AMO may be listed on the bow sides. Adjustments can be made with some twisting of the endless loop. If you go that route and all is well, measure the actual string length when strung and buy or make a flemish in that actual length, or maybe a tad shorter if B50 or B55 material. They will stretch some.
Again, welcome aboard.

Forgot to mention....I like flemish strings to twist like a barber pole twist, causal and flowing. As the string stretches with time and use you have room to twist up.
If the twists get tight and close at proper brace, time to get a new string.

Your strings should be 4" shorter than the AMO length marked on the bows. That's a starting point. Now adjust the string length by twisting until the twang is gone. That's probably the right height. Shakespeare's generally have a very high brace height. There used to be a web site with an old
Shakespeare catalogue that listed brace heights, but I can't find it now. Even the brace heights listed, however, were just starting points. You still have to tune!
