The tropical temperature in spite, we kept on shooting as if there would be no tomorrow...
Shooting far distances also means you have to walk a LOT to get your arrows back! So we gave ourselves a real work-out here.
Then I moved over to the Voodoo take down longbow with Elk antler riser. Let me tell you one thing: this bow shoots as beautiful as it looks. Smoking fast and really death quiet in the hand. The weight of the bow offers the best of two worlds: between a recurve with heavy riser and a longbow. So for whom a recurve is too heavy and a longbow too light, the Voodoo is perfect! I had a hard time giving it back to Hubert.
Speaking off: he started to shoot his brand new Whippenstick takedown: the Phoenix (as a matter of fact, it is that new that it isn’t even on Ken’s site yet) this takedown recurve really rocks! Craftsmanship all the way, smokin’n fast and a real shooting machine. Hubert was shooting it like he owned that bow for years.
I shot it several times and I was impressed. But I had to focus on my buy: Peregrine or Voodoo?
We decided to shoot from a more realistic distance: 32 yards. Again I compared the Peregrine with the Voodoo. We were shooting at 3D vulgar and we didn’t miss a lot.
I made a separate topic about it already; but for those we missed it: Hubert took a car-nav box with him, which broke down. We started to shoot at that at 35 yards. We hit it each with our third arrow. Amazingly enough, I shot exactly in the tiny hole Hubert made with his arrow, what are the odds on that? I destroyed it with my 5th arrow and that was the end off the fun and justice was done…..
We shot a variety of bows, but I kept on coming back on the Voodoo and the Peregrine. In the end I decided to buy the Peregrine. It was a close finish. The Peregrine however, has a predefined grip, which fits your hand securely. Shot after shot you have very consistent placing of the hand, even without looking. This ensures you shoot the bow the same way every time. Further more; the Peregrine has a real sight widow at the riser, where the Voodoo is only cut out a bit. Since I am holding my bow vertical when I shoot, the rather thick riser of the Voodoo was a little bit in the way when aiming. Canting the bow a little bit would solve that problem, but that is not the way I shoot. And because I own already a Peregrine, it will be very easy to change from bow, because they shoot the same.
So I kept on shooting with the Peregrine and Hubert was having fun wit his Whippenstick, Suddenly we realized it was already 18.30, meaning we had been non-stop shooting for 5 hours! But it felt like one hour. We must have shot hundreds and hundreds of arrows!
Satisfied and burned by the sun, we went home, were the BBQ was waiting. I prepared everything in the morning, so only thing I had to do was get the fire in. Then I taught Hubert how to make the perfect BBQ sauce. All natural, very easy to make and delicious! You can also use it to marinate your meat. For those who are interested, pm me!
Then we started the BBQ and kept on eating. Of course we had some beers and wines. We talked and talked and suddenly it was 3.30 in the morning. Definitely time to go to bed!
In the morning we had breakfast and then it was time for Hubert to leave again to Germany.
What a great day it was. Joke and I will miss Hubert, but the good news is we will visit Hubert and his family in July…..
