What to do in Phoenix AZ?

I will be working in Phoenix from Sept. till the middle of Dec. Any trad shoots around there at that time? Does anyone know of any public places to shoot or hunt? Anyone on here from there?

Butts, Check out Ben Avery Shooting Range. They have some shoots but they also have a archery range for the public. There is also a range in Masa. That is also hunting season for several species and small game.

Is there a traditional shop in Phoenix?  My daughter is starting college down there in a few weeks.  So, I will be down there a fair amount the next four years.

Butts, quail season starts in mid-October.  I like to hunt on the San Carlos Reservation about 90 miles east of Phoenix.  So bring your shotgun.

The San Carlos Reservation is good for us out-of-staters. I hunted there last year for Javelina in January...might start to late for you if you're leaving in December. Check out their website for hunting information.

There was a all Trad place in Phoenix called Three Peaks Dont know if it is still there, small place with a small range out back. Had all kinds of good stuff inside. I can look around and see if I still have the address and phone.

The store is four peaks in Mesa. His phone is 480-834-0958. The owner is Steve Shook. I do hope he is still there. I will be there next week. A trip to his store is a trip down memory lane.

Might be hard to find the first time. The street is no wider than an alley in Chicago.

I have shot at Usery Pass Recreation Area in Mesa.  It' a really fine range.  It costs five dollars a head or $75 dollars for a whole year.  I shot it alsmost every day for the past three years until we moved to Georgia.  I would jog the hunter range shooting about three arrows per target.  I got a real good workout and got to shoot my bow at the same time.  I've been to Four Peaks Archery a few times and it has a lot of Howard Hill bows.

Second that on Ben Avery. Any outdoorsman should at least see it once. If you find the time, try to get out to Cave Creek and Annies Mineshaft if it's still there. Great fish on Friday nights.

The Cabela's in Glendale is fun to visit--some monster antelope and mule deer on display.  It's out by the new football stadium which might be interesting to see as well.  

Oh, don't forget In-n-Out Burger (www.in-n-out.com).  There are now several in the valley.  If you like fish and chips, make sure to visit Pete's Fish and Chips (www.petesfishandchips.com) with several locations in the Phoenix area. And Tempe is the orignal home of Cold Stone Creamery (www.coldstonecreamery.com).  Next to bowhunting, I enjoy eating.
