First trad kills
« on: June 13, 2012, 12:37:00 AM »
So, I just got started on trad shooting a few months ago and haven't gotten to go hunting yet but I was out shooting the target yesterday and I was standing near a gopher hole. This one gopher kept picking his head out and after a couple misses (at less than one yard) I finally got him. Then about five minutes layer another gopher popped out of a hole nearby and I was able to shoot him on my first try. The first one was with my Wes Wallace Mentor and the second one was with my uncles Heritage Archery recurve. (I was testing it out seeing if I wanted to bump up in weight.) Hopefully the big game will be next!

Gopher stew!  Do you have a lot of gophers where you live?

Tons! Last week I was using a pellet gun to thin out the heard a little. 12 in one day plus 9 the next and I didn't even make a dent. That was interspersed over an hour or two while shooting my bow. If I had some judo points or blunts heavy enough and some arrows without broken shafts (I think I have 4 good arrows now and three of those are bare shafts) I would be chasing them with my bow. It would definitely help my accuracy.

Nice work Shane. It's like whack-a-mole with a bow! Chuck E. Cheese better catch on to that game!

I'd get some blunts and make it a regular routine. It will get you sharp for fall in no time.

No better practice for sure.  Congrats
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I used to live up in Idaho we called them (whistle pigs). This was however before I found archery for the second time, anyway I could go through a couple bricks of 22s a day picking these little boogers off.Entirely too much fun!!! I believe the proper name for these squirrels is (Townsend ground squirrels). They poke there heads out of there holes and whistle to communicate with each other.
