Cat Whisker Install Question

I was wondering who prefers to install the Whiskers through the string, vs. tie on the outside of the string?

Any benefits either way.

I tie them on with B50, the last longer for me that way rather than just tying them in a half knot

I've used mini plastic zip ties to tie them on.

I have seen them fall out from an unstrung bow when they were just put through the string.That's a pain.

I tie them on around the string so they can be tuned.  Moving the silencers up or down the string even an inch on some bows can make a big difference.

Of course after you determine the best spot you could tie them through the string. I don't ever do it though and haven't had any issues with them moving yet.

Outside string tied/wrapped with serving or string material itself.  I've also conveniently used plastic ties as mentioned above, but found that those abrade the string over time and they just don’t look as good (if that matters to you).  

Between the string works, but I don't like when people put a huge “glump” of Cat Whisker between the string strands, as that to me, is counterintuitive for performance.  If you do go between the string, you’ll likely want to tie them as well, as mentioned above.

Several ways to do it, you’ll find your preference.

I tie mine around the string in a knot, for the same reasons mentioned above for finding the best spot on the string.  I've never had a problem with them moving around or coming undone.

Mitch...cut them 8" long. Fold in half, tie a granny knot where you want them on the string. Pull very tight...then using a small pair of scissors, cut them to your desired length.

I just started using them and I found that I prefer tying them on the outside.

I'm with FarmerMarley. I used to split the string, tie knots, and have even used zip-ties. None of these were satisfactory to me. Then I discovered the Hawaiin fellows' method of attaching with serving thread to create "whisker balls".  

This is the only method I use now. They are stable, can be moved with care, and look so much better!

In fact, I rate this as one of the top things I've picked up from Trad Gang.
