super glue bow repair questions
« on: June 14, 2012, 05:45:00 PM »
my bow has a small area on the bottom of the riser that feels like a crack. You can feel it but even with a magnifying glass no crack is visible. The bowyer looked at it and suggested putting ca glue on it just to be safe(totaly ok with that I bought the bow used it is 4 yrs old) So ca glue what is it? where do you get it? should the old finish be sanded off first? what kind of finish on it after it is set? any help or suggestions will be appreciated.   Thanks   Jim

CA glue Is super glue. I'm not going to try to spell the words it stands for. If you can get it on neat enough it is like a seal in itself.

The cheap super glue works great 4-5 tubes for a dollar. I have never had a problem with it.

It may not be necessary, if you cannot see it with a magnifing glass. Could it be a light scratch? If it is in an area that flexes (fadeout, or grip-throat on a recurve), I might be tempted to put some wax over it and watch it. It would be important to keep moisture out if there is anything to it, and wax will help.

Super glue may just sit on the finish and not get into the spot. Is it with the grain, or across the grain?
