Woodies! Help Me Select Spine!
« on: June 28, 2012, 06:09:00 AM »
Just got a nice Crow Creek Black Feather TD Recurve. It's a 49@28 and I'm pulling about 27" on it. I'm planning to use Eclipse 125 2 blade heads, 15 strand Astroflight string and bever balls (may switch to musk ox woollies if I can find them cheap enough). Used Stus, but still not getting the kind of groups I should be. Best set up I've found is 60-65 cut to 27" with 125 up front. They tend to hit high and slightly weak though. Ideally I want an arrow that's 28" with teh Eclipse heads. Thoughts on getting a good tune?
God Bless,
Erik

The best way to find your correct spine, IMHO, is to order a test kit from Braveheart Archery. It's a little more time consuming, but you will end up with a more accurate spine.

I would say that if you want a 28" arrow 55/60 would be a good bet with 125 gr up front. A 60/65 cut to 27 should be too stiff, you may be getting a weak indication but shorting an arrow will make it stiff so you would need more weight up front to make it weaker. Roger gives good advise on a test kit. You are pulling about 47# if your draw is 27".

Erik

55/60 should work fine, cut your arrows 28.5" with your 27" draw and these arrows should fly well with both 125/135 and 160 grain heads.
