Stump shooting in Wisconsin

Is stump shooting in Wisconsin legal on private property without a license? If possible let me know where it is covered under the law, so I can read it myself.

Private property you should be good anywhere anytime, any state. If you ain't, let's all move to Alaska. We used to target shoot with anything up there just about anywhere on state land.

Hmmmmm.  Think there may be some warden discretion involved in Wisconsin.  A few years ago, I shot a turkey on private land during the Spring season.  My brother was still hunting so I was planning to do some stump shooting and morel hunting in another part of the woods.  About that time, a warden came by, checked my license, tagging of the turkey, etc.

I told him what I was planning to do and asked if he would have any problem with that.  He said it would look like I was still turkey hunting to him and that he would probably cite me if he saw me doing it.  Even with blunts only in my quiver and coyote season open?  Yep.  Needless to say, I hunted morels without my bow that afternoon.  

I don't know if that view is universally held by all Wisconsin wardens, but it's something to think about.  I do know that some wardens have never heard of stump shooting, have no idea what it is.  

Would probably be vindicated in court, but that's a waste of time and money.

I had a simular situation in Washington state years ago.  I'd shot my deer and elk and had a few days left of the hunt.  My plan was to take my bow and hunt grouse along the ridge lines where they were hanging out.  The warden was a friend and stopped by camp to chat.  I asked and found that I would be cited if I carried my bow but was OK if I carried a shotgun.

Go figure!!

Actually Orion it is illegal to hunt morels with a bow.

Wingnut, did you not have a small game license?  If you did have one then you can pop grouse all you want with a bow just check the bag limit.  After grouse there are rabbits, squirrel, racoons, and other critters.
I'm not stump shooting, just a poor squirell hunter.
