Bitzenburger - Need help
«

Well I would like a Bitz fletcher and may have a deal working on this older model. Can someone tell me if these older models will do everything the new ones will? Would like to hear from you guys that have used both. I notice is doesn't have the three set screws in the indexer. Will this one do the 60x120 three fletch, 90x90 and 75x105 four fletch like the new ones do?
Thanks TJ

The only thing i'm not seeing is if it has the 3 position nock setting (75x105,60x120,90x90)other wise it looks like it will do everthing mine will and it's at least 25yrs old! I say go for it if it's a good deal!

Looks good. You can buy the 4 fletch indexer seperately, and you may wish to get a straight clamp too, and you will be all set.

I actually prefer this model to the newer ones. If you don't buy it, I'd like to.

my question would be is how much are you spending?
I just got new one for 69.95. it might be better to get a new one and not fight with an old one

First time I've seen one that looks like that.

That is a late 40's model if I remember correctly. I have several and there are some differences to note. The clamp that you show is for the modern Bitz's, make sure that it lays the quill down square to the shaft as some don't when used on the early jig. The indexer that is currently available to do the multiple fletch patterns will not work with that jig because Bitzenberger lengthened the detent area of the jig to make room for the 3 different settings. They work great with the original clamps.

I have one like that and a new one. I prefer the old. You do need separate nock adapters though for the different fletching orientations. The magnet on the new one is so strong it's a pain to use. The older one is also finished better, no sharp edges like on the new.
If you want to do more than what the nock receiver that comes with it is made for, a new one will be more convenient.

Like others have said, the nock receivers are specific to one configuration. Bitz made receivers for three-fletch, two types of four-fletch (90 and 75-105) and even five fletch for flu flus. They haven't made those receivers since 1962 (according to their web site) so findind additional ones can be tricky. I have three old bitz jigs (one like your photo that was my grandfather's and two without that little lever. I have no problem using the modern clamps in any of them.
If you decide not to buy that jig please let me know. If the price is right I may be interested.

Justin, the bases are the same, but your indexer may be different. If the flat on the indexer knob has an "L" stamped on the flat, it is clocked for doing left helical. It will do straight just fine, but the feathers will be clocked around just a bit from normal.
