String for an old bow
« on: July 07, 2012, 12:35:00 PM »
Found a bow I had as a boy and ordered a string for it however, when the string came the loop ends looked large for the bow. Now this is an unmarked small longbow of 61 inches but has very small diameter limbs. They are only 1/4" at the tips and the limbs are not wider the 3/4" at the largest point. My question is: Is there a string made that has much smaller diameter loops to fit a bow like this bow or am I SOL? It may shoot with the sting I got and will very carefully try it but thought I would ask if anyone has encountered this issue before. It is not essential that I shoot this bow but just thought it would be a good trip down memory lane from 55 years ago.

I can make you a string with small loops--no problem.

You can make the string loops as small as you need yourself. Get yuorself a spool of upolstery thread and serve the loops by hand

Give Chad a ring. He's a perfect example of the advantage of getting a custom string, you get exactly what you want and what you need and the cost is pretty much the same.

Like said, you can use some serving thread to make the loops smaller.

However, my main concern would be that the string you purchased is B50 or B55 material for a 55 year old bow. The new string materials are too harsh, lack the stretch, for an old bow and can cause limb/tip damage.
