do a search here for "cheap easy accurate spine tester". I know a couple guys made one according to those plans and they were pleased. It's a design that was in PA mag years ago, I just expanded the charts.

I made one following Jim's plans and it is very accurate and easier to build.

Here is a link to a website run by "archeryrob", of The Bowyer's Den -- he has linked, in turn, to three spine tester designs:

 http://www.geocities.com/archeryrob/spine_tester.htm

The first spine tester I ever used was the 2Jays tester, and it is a good design, far more accurate than it looks; I used a single 2X6, instead of making a box, with metal shelf-support brackets in place of the wood end-pieces, Due to lack of space for the whole thing (I had to hang it on my bedroom door).
