2 new weapons blooded
« on: July 09, 2012, 03:20:00 PM »
was shooting my new bamabow this morning, when i heard my german shorthair sally barking bayed.

had 4 broadheads in the backquiver and my new bowie, so took off straightaway.

was hoping hogs, but it was just a treed raccoon.  they are hard on our quail, though.

hated to risk a broadhead sent skyward, so knocked it out of the tree with a blunt.  it hit the ground running, with sally-girl hot on it.

treed again.  this time i did what i should have the 1st time, and sent a broadhead.  i learned to shortdraw a broadhead so as to keep the arrow in game many years ago on grouse in montana.

did it just right, at maybe 20 feet.  bleeding 'coon fell from tree with a foot of arrow sticking out each side, but running no more.  full of fight!

by this time, my 12 year old dachshund samson (a mighty hunter in his day, but fading), caught up.

he's still a pure killer.  just DOVE on that 'coon!  it outweighed him double, i reckon.

couldn't get a clear shot, so drew my new 10" laclair bowie, moved in, and got a clear neck chop in.  that did it, but i chopped again to be sure.

dogs were thrilled.  they worried the carcass for a half-hour.  they're good dogs.

i just love dogs, bows, and knives...

Good job, but this time of year I would be worried about rabies, hope your dogs are vacinated. Even dead if the coon has rabies it can infect the dogs and you from the blood.

Dog on a coon with a broadhead sticking out of it? Yikes.
We are all here because we are not all there.

yep.  life can be risky.

it's a lot safer to watch hunting shows on tv and keep the dogs in the kennel.

Man, you need to get you a tomahawk. I much prefer a hawk to a knife in those close in situations.  :clapper:
