Why am I getting these marks?
« on: July 13, 2012, 09:33:00 PM »
Calling all experts.

I'd like to have your opinions on why you think my arrow is making these marks on my strikeplate and shelf. As you can see there are three points of contact, one on the shelf and two on the strikeplate. Lets hear your thoughts.
Don't pay any attention to the blue tape. That's just to keep the sweat off the leather grip on these very hot days.

Is the front surface / of your feather vane rough or sharp ?  Glue rough ? That can cause such marks.  With a lot of shots, the leather may just be getting burnished by contact with the arrow shafts too.

The lower one is probably wear from drawing back the arrow. The upper one could be from a combination of a high nock point and a too stiff of a spine. Put some baby powder on your fletch and see where the marks are.

I would add one more possibility to what Looper advises.  Might have too low a brace height causing the arrow to not adequately clear the strike plate.

The lower may be the nock hitting the rest(brace issue),and the one on the strike is either the arrow (spine issue), or feather contact.
Put painters tape on the shell and rest and shoot the same arrow a few times and look for the blue contact mark on the arrow.
