2-piece longbow issues?
« on: July 14, 2012, 02:45:00 PM »
it appears that bamabows and big jim use a similar joint, and 1 of them will build my next bow.

are there any drawbacks, long or short-term, to this type of bow?

i don't really NEED a takedown, but i reckon it would be handy sometimes.

I have 400+ out there and not one single failure.
I have had a riser break but it was not related to the takedown. In fact, it had been in many hands by the time it broke. No telling what happened.
I use it in every one of my personal  bows (all my personal bows are in the 80+ catgegory) and have complete confidence in it.
It is the best system out there or I would be using a different one.

Thanks, bigjim

You are gonna love it; no drawbacks that I have seen. I have one of Big Jim's takedowns, and another one on order. It is a great system that is strong and flawless.

I have never seen a problem with a bow that has that style of a takedown.

Nate at Bamabows showed me his carbon sleeve system on his 102 pound bow and it was very snug coming apart. Appears to be very strong. I have to ask myself if it is worth $250 more for me. I would say not. Nate did have to raise the price of the takedown option to make it worthy for his time involved. Can't go wrong with either builder.

I have 3 of Big Jims bows in the 2pc configuration. All of them have worked great for me. Don

I have experience with both bowyers. It's my favorite 2pc connection system. You'll love a 2pc from either bowyer.

I received my Bama Hunter (2 piece) less than a month ago and have shot more arrows than I can count out of it without a single issue. It is awesome! Nate makes one heck of a bow.

I'm looking forward to making some venison with it this Fall.

I have many two piece takedowns. They are very very convenient.
