another arrow selection question
« on: July 20, 2012, 10:45:00 PM »
Hey guys, I just recently got a new bow. Two tracks ambush 60@28. I want to shoot wood, just love the way wood flies. Anyways I recently read a comment from a fellow trad ganger about the rule of 5. Basically for my setup i'd start at 60-65 spined arrows. Add 5 for fast flight string, so that'd put me at 65-70. add another 5 for being center cut, or in my case almost cut to center, and thats 70-75 with 125gr points. If i want to use say 160gr points i'd add another 5 in spine.
Does this sound right guys? I have a test kit right now and really like the way the 70-75 arrows shoot from this bow and also like the 75-80 arrows. My question is which to order? I want to order one dozen that i can use for everything. I'm gonna hunt hogs this september, deer this fall, and want to use them for elk and other large game. So should i order the 75-80 in order to increase overall arrow weight and penetration or stay with 70-75 and 125gr points?
Sorry if this is confusing guys, hopefully someone can help.
Now then, get your weapons, your quiver and your bow and go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me.- Genesis 27:3

Shoot them thru paper from about 6 feet and you will know which spine is best.  It is really hard to "see" perfect arrow flight, your eye can't pick them up before the fletch straightens them.
Good judgement comes from experience.  Experience comes from bad judgement.

Keep in mind that your broadheads will weaken the spine some.

Fletcher, thanks for the advice! Sounds like a great idea. What should i look for though?  I know you want a clean perfectly round hole, but what do i do or what does it mean if the nock end or tail end is kicking or swinging left or right or up or down?

John49, thats why i was thinking about going with the heavier spined arrows so i could afford to put more weight up front for penetration purpposes

I'm not sure that the previous post will work.  Just google 'Tuning for tens by Rick Stonebraker'.
