Removing string wax after making bowstrings

One man told me he would dip his ends into acetone and strip the extra wax off. He also said the string ends would be very soft after this. Has anyone done this nd does it effect the strenghtn of the bow string?

I can't see any advantage by removing the wax.  I would think that without wax to lube the individual strands it might result in more wear.

Wax is there to lubricate and protect the string--ever seen a dried-out bowstring?  Had one brought to my shop yesterday, after it broke without warning-dry as sand (wasn't one I'd made).

I've heard of people doing that so the string wouldn't stick to the recurve in a bow limb--I'd just shoot it a little while to get the excess wax out.
