Knives Of Alaska

Just wanted to share this with the gang. I purchased a set of Knives of Alaska some years ago. Probably 5 or so maybe more. Last year I noticed that my Bush Camp Knife had nicks in the blade. This knife has never been abused. I called them and asked what I should do. They told me to send it in. So I did. Never heard anything and today there was a package on the porch. New knife and a check for my shipping cost of the old knife. It is a rare occasion this day in age when you can find someone to stand behind a product. But to reimburse you for an inconvience I thought was worth mentioning. I know we have many fine knife makers on here and I'm not posting to take anything away from any of them. I just thought Id share a positive experience with a "bigger company".

Don't take this the wrong way but why didn't you just grind the nicks out and resharpen. Just wondering.

Sounds like there might have been some metallurgy problems with the knife, which is probably why they replaced the knife and send a check for the shipping. Nice to know people who stand behind their products!

I thought of that but didn't want to attempt something and void any warranty the knife had. Paid quite a bit for the set and honestly thought that KOA or any company should stand behind its product. As I posted before I'm very pleased they did.

I'm not a business major - just a dumb engineer, but what do you think that one knife cost them in comparison to the cost of advertising.

That post of yours probably got them at least a 10 to 1 return on their cost.

I have a high-dollar Austrian scope on an old German drilling (side-by-side shotgun with a 7mm below). Scope fogged up on me. I sent it in to the factory for repair. $65 and they purged it and resealed it and sent it back with no guarantee.

Guess why I buy American whenever I can.

SC, I just got done spending 2 weeks in Junuea. There is a Knives of Alaska store there. Needless to say I spent more money there then I had planned. Great Product and great people.I was told when ever and however my knives(3)became dull, to send them back for re-sharpening. No cost. I bought an 12 in. filet knife. After about 300lbs of fish it is still razor sharp

Great service for a great product. I keep the camp knife in my hunting backpack. These knives keep an edge like no other knife that I've used.

I had one that chipped the spine of a doe. They replaced it no questions. I now know more about knives and I understand basic metallurgy. I recall the grain structure of the steel was very fine. It appeared almost creamy. This is good. Which leads me to believe it was tempered too hard. I don't know their heat treat process but I know the knife that chipped was just a little hard. The customer service was outstanding though.
