is my setup adequate?
«

i am having a very hard time tuning my widows with any heavy arrow. my setup is a black widow psax 51#@27" with a 28.5" gold tip trad 5575 and a 150 gr 4 blade stinger. the total arrow weight is about 450 grains. my bow loves this arrow and shoots it very accurately and straight out to 40 yards (hunting i shoot 30 yards maximum). i am a little concerned with the weight of this arrow for big whitetails. any thoughts on this setup? thanks in advance

Just ran into a thread on here with 40-45lb bow kills thats pretty awesome. After seeing that I dont think you will question your setup. It made me feel alot better.

The deer won't care how many times the arrow will pass through....

Yeah, that should work just fine. I bet it really zips along.
Just curious, what heavier arrows did you try?
I'd be surprised if you couldn't add a lot of weight to the end of that 5575 and still get it to fly well for you, if you wanted to bump the weight up a touch. Did you try a 200 grain point?

You have more than enough to blow through any whitetail on the planet.

If still retaining concerns, then you may consider evaluating arrow flight utilizing a 300 gn point.

More than adequate! With deer sized game I think accuracy wins out over arrow weight and that'll be one flat shooting, accurate set up.

Yes.
You know it's funny. I don't read 99% of these threads. I just answer 'yes' to the ones I open without reading.
So far, I've been right every time.....

Thats the reason I shoot Carbon Express Heritage shafts. Their similar spined shafts are heavier. The CE 250's are 11 gpi and the GT 5575's are 9.3 gpi. That right at a 50 grain increase in 29"/ Started shooting them last year and had three pass throughs one with a major bone leg bone hit.
3 rivers sells a test kit so you don't have to buy a dozen to try them out.

Yes you should have no problem getting complete pass-thru's with that setup.

I think that would work but I would still be looking to get to around 10gpp if it were my bow.
I would also think that you should be able to cut off about 3/4"-1" of the 55/75 shafts you are now using, add a 50 or 100gr brass insert (or just go to a heavier point/BH) and get that arrow to tune well.
