Why no steel inserts?

I'm curious as to why nobody makes or manufactures a steel arrow insert. It seems it would be stronger than brass or aluminum. Instead of adding different weights to the back of aluminum inserts you could just buy which ever weight you want, like brass just stronger. Anybody know why? Oh, I'm Gene by the way, I'm fairly new here, so hello all!

Probably because they just aren't needed.  Steel's weight is between aluminum and brass, closer to brass.  Two sizes of brass inserts, coupled with different weight screw in points and/or aluminum or steel (or titanium) adaptors, yields about any weight combination needed.  Brass isn't as strong as steel, but encased inside a carbon shaft, it really doesn't need to be.

Every time I have had the tip of my arrow fail it was because the insert broke the wall of the shaft, I have never heard of an insert breaking. As for why its not made... I don't know.

I believe the new deep six inserts are made of steel.

Many broadheads have aluminum threads.Aluminum and steel will not last together. Galvanic corosion will rot the aluminum in short order.

Hmmmmm.  A lot of adaptors are steel, and a lot of those are screwed into aluminum inserts. A little oil or other lubricant keeps steel on steel from rusting.  We've been gluing steel broadheads to aluminum adaptors for a long time without any ill effects. I think most of us will be pretty old or will break or lose the arrow before rust or other metal breakdown becomes a problem.

machining!  There is very little weight difference between the steel and brass but a huge amount of tooling wear when cutting steel.  Our 1st heavy inserts were actually made out of 303 SS but they wore tooling down so quickly we switched to using brass and it is much easier to machine, almost as strong as steel and much, much tougher then aluminum.

I have some stainless steel inserts from traditionalarcherysolutions dot com. They are made for glue on broadheads.
