Trail cam ?
« on: August 20, 2012, 11:57:00 AM »
Not sure where to post this, but I had to sell my trail camera's and am looking for a cheap newer one, has anybody tried the Hunten Outdoors 2mp model? If so how do you like it? I am not expecting much for a $30 camera (on sale) but I don't use any feature besides taking pictures. Thanks!

I tried not to answer this one but here goes... Don't expect much from those cameras. What is very disappointing is walking up to a camera after you have been waiting all week to see what it has captured to find it dead. Think about it for a minute you are expecting a lot from a camera that has to perform in a harsh environment of water and blazing heat for $30. I would discourage that purchase and save the $30 in a shoe box so you can buy a better one later. Heck I spend $20 just for the batteries in one of mine.

I'll weigh in on his one. Their are many manufacturers of trail cams I have owned two top end cameras leupold RCX-1 and RCX-2 I sold them on the auction site after they were used about a month or two. They didn't perform for me. I went with bushnell trophy cams after selling my RCX's at a loss with still enough to cover the cost of two bushnells with lock boxes.  After doing extensive Internet research my findings are the bushnell cams are the best bang for the buck. Now to add to the confusion their are others who love their brand xxxxxx cams. So I guess it's down to you get what you pay for.  I would love to have the reconix cams but my budget allowed what i determined the best for the $$$$

I just purchased the Hunten outdoors 7MP camera with the rechargeable battery.  This is the first week out so I dont have an opinion however.

I have sent 2 inquiry emails with no response so far this week.

They received favorable reviews the couple places I looked.

There were no instructions on how to charge the battery and it lost 1/2 power while adjusting the settings. I recharged and put in the woods. the battery lost a bar of power while I placed the camera so I fully intend to find a completely dead camera when I go check this weekend. I wish they would get back to me.
Relax,

I have to weight in and say that you get what you pay for more often than not...I told my better half I had wanted a spypoit camera a few montsh back and wouldn't you know she got me a spypoint camera off the Auction site for my birthday and got it for a hundred dollars less than it retails... which with shipping was just over a 100 bucks...photos, video with sound all works great and the batteries last for months...

I'm with TJ save the money and get something that will last.

Hey Jacob you can find some of the older moultries for a good price. I bought a couple cheap cams and they all got thrown away. Like TJ said save your money and get a decent camera, you'll enjoy it more.

I have had several trail cameras, cheap and expensive ones. The $$ spent sometimes is not all the answer. I had a Cuddieback Expert that turned out to be a piece of junk and the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I bought a few Mouties at Cabelas in the Bargin cave and they are still working after five years and thousands of pictures. One of them developed white out issues and Moultrie took it back and fixed it at no cost and I bought it used. Great customer service in walking through the problem solving over the phone and then said send it back and we will fix it for you no charge, that was a few years back. It was the IR 60. I also am using the Bushnell cam and it works fine after several years.

As for the flash cameras I have numerous repeat animals coming to flash cameras and have had some one shot only animals too, so I have a mixed review on that but feel that for an entry level guy who wants to save $$ it's OK to go with a flash type camera. Like with all gear you learn as you go what works for you and what doesn't. Good luck to ya !!

I've never had a Hunten trailcam, so I can't comment on it.

If you go to natchez shooters website you can buy a refurbished Primos Truthcam 35 with the factory warranty for $57.

I have a couple Primos 46 cams and have had good luck with them.
