Arrow building business??

Is there any real monetary profit in building/selling (wood)arrows?? Or do most use their sales to help fund their own addiction?? I suspect that as with most anything fun and sports/hunting related it is tough to make much money making and selling these items.  I am just considering maybe tryin to make and sell some arrows, not expecting to get rich overnite or use it as a sole source of income, but maybe to help out with some expenses incurred in life.   Your thoughts??

I think you would make a lot more money a lot quicker getting a part time job or working some over time etc...  

I have a good friend that is in the business of arrow making and there is not a lot of margin.

I make what I consider to be a premium quality wood arrow and use all tapered shafts, graded, tapered, hand spined, weighed and matched by me.  I have a minimum of $45 and 4 hours in a doz no frills arrows, not including admin, phone and email time.  You can make some money at it, but only a little.  Wood arrows are fun and satisfying to make, but moneywise there are better options.

Frankly, I don't see how anyone makes a stand alone living in traditional archery. The small stuff I'm doing might pay for my hunts this year (which is awesome), but no way could it be my sole income. It's fun though!

AS the gent's already said.  Alot of people look at the price's of some of the traditional archery tackle and bow's and think these guys must be making a killing.  Well, once you invest money in quality equipment to make quality products, alot of time and effort in perfecting your craft, there is little profit (unless personal).  I once thought that I could make good money at it.  but when I was making arrow's to help my buddy who ran a buisness at it, and make over 500 arrows in a week, which included different stains, feather choice, nocks, cresting's and crowns, I realized overhead is a killer.  I also lost the passion I had for making them.  Didn't make another arrow for few month's afterward, was just rung out from it and realized not for me.  Can only imagine how bowyer's do it, imagine they don't even shoot bow's anymore.

If you had to do it for a living you would really have to love working as a hobby and not worried about making money. Look around what is out there and who is making them and what they put into them. Some of these guys I think put way more time in than they are selling for. I don't see how it adds up other than enjoyment and pride in your work. Look at who you would be competing against and forget it see what I mean.

I see you have sold some things lately did you enjoy shipping things out then waiting to see if they were ok? That's part of it as well also other facets of a business to that's not all peaches and cream. I'd think a little more about this one maybe.Good luck though if you go into it.
